Village of Quogue

The Village of Quogue is located on the scenic south shore of Long Island, in the eastern end of Suffolk County approximately 80 miles from midtown Manhattan. The Village of Quogue, founded in 1659 came into its own as a summer resort community in the 1890s a period known in the Village as the boarding house era. Following lengthy debate, the Village was incorporated in 1928 thereby giving it the autonomy it needed to develop over the years at its own measured pace. Today, Quogue proudly stands apart from the "Hamptons Scene" focusing as it always has, on wholesome family oriented activities.

The Village of Quogue, incorporated in 1928, is positioned 40.82 degrees north of the equator and 72.60 degrees west of the prime meridian (40 degrees 82' N, 72 degrees 60' W). It has a land area of 4.2 square miles, surface water of 2.4 square miles, local population of 1,018 people within 11959 zip code according to the 2000 Census. Basically residential in character with a predominantly seasonal population, most residences are single family homes, although there are a smattering of multiple residential units located within the Village. The area south of the Quogue Street crescent is home to historic estates behind the tall hedgerows.  Commercial businesses are concentrated East to West along Montauk Highway and south of the villages sole traffic signal on Jessup Avenue, known as the heart of the Village. Old Country Road and the Route 104 crossing coming down from Exit 64 South of Sunrise Highway house the majority of the industrial offices, warehouse and service industry providers.

Quogue Village maintains its own police department to protect residents 24 hours a day. The Village Public Works Department maintains the local village streets and municipal facilities. The Quogue Fire Department is comprised of over 50 volunteer firefighters from the community. The Village of Quogue maintains one of the lowest tax bases on Long Island.

The beautiful beaches of the Atlantic Ocean on Dune Road's barrier beach may be accessed via the single draw bridge at Post Lane.

The Quogue Association, Inc.

The mission of the 100 year old Quogue Association is to maintain and enhance the ambiance of the Village, to support organizations that strengthen the quality of life in the Village and on the East End of Long Island and to acknowledge the accomplishments of individuals and groups whose actions have contributed to the welfare of the community. The Quogue Association sponsors numerous activities including: Spring and Fall Public Information Series featuring speakers who cover issues that are of importance and interest to Village residents; beautification projects and plantings around the Village; publication of the Quogue Post Office Box Directory and a booklet that provides information about the Village for new residents; financial support to organizations that benefit our community; and holiday celebrations on the Village Green. The board also becomes proactive on issues that directly impact Quogue such as the proposed expansion of aviation and non-aviation businesses at Gabreski Airport. The Association also sponsors two important awards: the Humanitarian Award, which recognizes those members of the Quogue Police and Fire Departments who have performed above and beyond the call of duty, and The Quogue Bowl, which honors those who have contributed extraordinarily to the civic life of the Village through their volunteerism.
